Your Newborn Shoot Information

So your photo shoot of your beautiful new baby is coming nearer and you’ll want to know the in’s and out’s of what the shoot will entail. I’ve put together some information and tips so you’re feeling organised and prepared for your babies big day as a gorgeous model!

Before You Leave Home

Sessions are held at my home studio in Melton West. Please allow enough travel time to get to me. We will get the best images when your baby is sleepy and full, so please try to hold off feeding until you arrive at my studio just prior to your session time. If you wish to feed at my home studio before your session this is not a problem, please let me know and allow for feeding time before your booked in session time is due to start. I’ve found that it is easiest if you dress baby in a wrap or very loose, easy clothing for this feed and before going into the car seat/capsule. That way we won’t have to bother your bub too much with undressing before we start.

 Session Length

The session can take up to 4 hours. I will try and keep it to 2-3 hours but it’s hard to know exactly how long it will take. Your baby is the boss in this instance and settling may take time if feeding and changes are required. Please know I am not in a rush and getting your photos done properly is my priority. Also due to the time the session can take and that my home studio is cosy, please don’t bring along any extra family members unless required and discussed with me.

Poses and Props

I will have the studio set up ready for the shoot plan I have written out for the session. Please let me know if there are any images in particular you are
wanting that are of importance to you so I can incorporate them into my plan. I
like to be as organised as possible . This includes if you wish to be in photos with your bub. I highly recommend these shots as they are a favourite of mine and timelessly beautiful in the future to look back on and I’m sure you’ll be pleased

that you did. In this case please also prepare yourself ready for some photos,
like doing your hair and makeup (if you wear makeup, nothing too heavy though please ) Please wear something nice and neutral and preferably with no patterns. I will have everything I need for your baby for the session, but again if there is something you would like me to use please let me know in advance. I typically get between 3-5 different set ups. I cannot promise that we will get any specific
images but I will surely do my best.

Style of Photos – Posed and Lifestyle

Posed sessions are more formal in nature and work best when the baby is very sleepy and “mold-able”. The focus in this type of session is on shots of the baby looking perfect, usually in blankets, wraps, hats, & headbands. In the instance where you will be with baby I will give you direction for your poses, but encourage the natural wonder and amazement and beautiful bond that is between you and
your new life, your baby. These more natural moments are lifestyle style and I value this style greatly. The breaks that are in between the posed shots are also a great opportunity for me to get some lifestyle shots too.

During the Session

You will need to expect a few things during the session. We may have an accident or a few! I use a waterproof cover under each of my set ups so please not to
worry or apologise, it is very normal. Please also expect plenty of snack/feeding
breaks. You may need to feed the baby more often than you've become
accustomed to since we might disturb baby's sleep with posing and that is the
quickest and most effective way to get baby back to sleep. I will have some music
playing in the background to drown out any noises that may startle bubs. I will also have the room quite warm. This will keep baby very content in the room if the
temperature is nice and comfortable.

Keep in Touch

If anything changes from now till your session date please let me know. This may include if your bub starts to become unsettled at the time of day we have booked
in for or if plans change and you can’t make the session please let me know as
soon as you do so we can re-schedule.

I hope this helps you prepare for your bubs photo shoot with me and please if you have any questions or advice needed – just ask me
